Abstract:

SAME4Kids is an educational game project for kids in multi-lingual environments. In the modern world, people often find themselves in multi-lingual situations in education and work, and increasingly many multi-cultural families are formed. Those families often struggle with language choices for their young kids, whom must also be polylingual. While both research and common sense tells us that kids up to six years old have greater abilities to learn multiple languages, not many tools has been developed to access them. Prejudice and fear keep many from exposing kids to more than one language, mainly because adults find it difficult to learn themselves. However, in reality, a multi-cultural family or an immigrant family must use at least one and perhaps several languages simultaneously daily. (Imagine a French father and Danish mother speaking to each other in English, while their kids grow up in Denmark.)

The project is a large framework for language educational game developments, developing theory in education, as well as documentation of experiments.
